REAL ID goes live May 7, 2025! Learn about new travel rules, TSA tech updates, carry-on bag fees, and battery restrictions—all from a trusted travel agent.
2025 Travel Rules Are Here!
Planning to hop a flight in 2025? Whether you’re headed for beach vibes, passport stamps, or a quick domestic getaway, this year brings major changes to how we fly.
As your go-to travel pro at 2 Keys Travel, I’m here to break it all down with the perfect mix of facts and flavor—so you stay ready, avoid surprise fees, and breeze through TSA like the jetsetter you are.
🔋 Power Bank Rules: Size Really Does Matter
Battery drama on planes? Yup—it’s real. After too many fire incidents, airlines are cracking down hard on lithium-ion battery rules.
Here’s what to know for 2025:
- ✅ Power banks under 100Wh = totally fine in your carry-on
- ⚠️ Between 100Wh–160Wh = needs airline approval
- ❌ Over 160Wh = not allowed on flights at all
- 🔥 No power banks in checked luggage—carry-on only
- FAA Battery Guidelines
2 Keys Travel Tip: Not sure how many watt-hours your charger has? It’s usually printed on the label. DM me a pic before your trip and I’ll check it for you.

🧳 Carry-On Bags May Now Cost Extra (Yes, Seriously)
Budget airlines started it—but now even major carriers are charging for overhead bin carry-ons. If you’re flying Basic Economy, you might only get a personal item.
What that means for you:
- 💸 Carry-on fees range from $25–$60 each way
- 🧳 Personal items = small bags (under the seat only)
- ❗ Always read the fine print before clicking “book”
- United Basic Economy Baggage Rules
- American Airlines Baggage Policy
2 Keys Travel Tip: Sometimes it’s actually cheaper to check a bag and carry less onboard. Let me help you price-check your options before you book!

🔍 TSA in 2025: High-Tech + Stricter
TSA is leveling up—and it’s happening faster than you think. Here’s what’s rolling out nationwide:
- 👁️ Facial recognition for faster PreCheck entry (and fewer ID hassles)
- 📱 Touchless ID scans in many airports = scan your face, not your license
- 🧴 3D liquid scanners at select airports = you might not need to pull your liquids
BUT—and this is major:
🪪 REAL ID is Required Starting May 7, 2025
This isn’t a drill. You must have a REAL ID-compliant license (or passport) to fly domestically starting May 7.
If your license doesn’t have a gold star or you haven’t updated it—you may not be allowed to board your flight.
2 Keys Travel Tip: Don’t wait until the week before your trip. If you’re unsure about your ID, let me help you check and guide you through the update process.

✈️ Quick Recap: 2025 Travel Rules
