Train travel is magical—the clattering wheels, changing landscapes, and the slow pace that lets you savor the journey. Recently, I took an exciting trip from Los Angeles to Seattle with my godson and best friend, and it was packed with adventure and bonding. Here’s how it went!

Starting in Los Angeles: A Stay at Haas Trademark by Wyndham
Our journey began in Los Angeles after flying in on a Sunday. We stayed at the Haas Trademark by Wyndham, a perfect home base. The one-bedroom suite felt like an apartment, with two queen beds, a full kitchen, and spacious living areas. I used my Wyndham points, scoring a great deal. The only downside? A long check-in due to a new employee—but her kindness made up for the wait!
Though downtown LA had some rough spots, we found great places to explore. The hotel was near the jewelry district, which had armed security guards. We felt safe and ready for adventure.

Exploring LA by Train: Beaches, Hollywood, and More
My godson loves trains, so LA’s public transit was perfect for us. Sunday, we took the train to Santa Monica, enjoyed the beach, and grabbed some souvenirs. Monday was all about Hollywood! We visited TCL Chinese Theatre, took a Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour, and explored Hollywood Boulevard. It was an exciting, action-packed day full of iconic sights.

All Aboard Amtrak’s Coast Starlight to Seattle
The highlight of our trip was the 36-hour train ride on Amtrak’s Coast Starlight from LA to Seattle. We stayed in roomettes, which were cozy, but next time we’ll opt for a one-bedroom with a private bathroom. The food on board was decent, but the real star was the scenery. We passed California’s sunny coast, Oregon’s forests, and the dramatic Cascade Mountains—picture-perfect moments at every turn!

The train staff were friendly and helpful, adding to the relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed the downtime to unwind and take in the breathtaking views.

Discovering Seattle: Space Needle and Stunning Views
Arriving in Seattle, we stayed at the Embassy Suites, which had a two-room suite, free breakfast, and a pool. We spent the day exploring, visiting the Space Needle, and walking along the waterfront. A free shuttle helped us see more of the city. My godson, ever the train lover, even filmed a freight train, which made his day!
Seattle’s charm and beauty, with Mount Rainier in the background, left us in awe. Even the cloudy weather couldn’t hide how stunning the city is.
Reflecting on a Perfect Trip
By Friday, we were heading home, our hearts full of memories. This trip was the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. From the bustling streets of LA to Seattle’s serene beauty, we loved every moment. It was an incredible journey filled with family fun, exploration, and new experiences.
We can’t wait for our next adventure, wherever it may take us!
